Churchill’s Polar Bears Now on Google Street View

March 03, 2014

Assiniboine Park Zoo’s Journey to Churchill is currently in construction. However, to celebrate International Polar Bear Day, Google has partnered with Polar Bears International to bring polar bears into everyone’s homes by releasing images of the bears in their natural habitat. In order to collect the images without interfering with the animals or landscape, a trekker was mounted on a specially-designed Tundra Buggy, which traveled in and around Churchill, Manitoba, also known as “the polar bear capital of the world”. The two organizations are aiming to use this research for educational outreach, communicating the impact of global warming on polar bear habitats. Clickhere to watch a video to learn more.
