The Portico Group seeks a creative and experienced Zoo & Aquarium Exhibit Designer for master planning and design of immersive natural habitat animal exhibits. The position requires a strong understanding of zoological exhibit design.

Position requirements include:

• Familiarity with zoological animal management, holding buildings, animal barriers, husbandry, operant conditioning and animal facility operations.
• A working knowledge of artificial rockwork, landforms, water features, interpretive exhibits and viewing structure design. Presentation drawing and sketching skills, with fluency in the use of Auto Cad (ADT desirable);
• Experience with large scale projects.
• A proven ability to develop clear and concise construction drawings; and an understanding of detailing.
• A minimum of four years zoo design experience.

A few of our current “on the boards” projects include the Calgary Zoo Penguin exhibit; New York Aquarium Ocean Wonders exhibit for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) at Coney Island; National Zoo Seal and Sea Lion exhibit in DC; Fresno Chaffee Zoo Seal – Sea Lion and Africa exhibit in Fresno, CA; Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Conn., Parc Aquarium, Quebec; Happy Hollow Zoo in San Jose, CA; and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Elephant Exhibit in Colorado.
